The humble name given to “prairie potholes” – the ponds, wetlands and small lakes dimpling Minnesota and the eastern Dakotas – belies the mounting concerns here and nationally about their disappearance from the landscape.

Fall Camping Primer
August 28, 2007, 2:32 pm
Time to plan a trip to a camping hot spot.
Summer and the family camping season are drawing to a close. For those of you who are not blessed with children, it's a good time to start planning a fall camping trip to one of those previously over-crowded, summer destination hot spots. After Labor Day, the visitor traffic to the State Parks, National Parks, and National Forests slows down considerably, due primarily to the fact that kids are back in school.

Boy, 11, bags hog bigger than 'Hogzilla'
May 28, 2007, 8:31 am
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Hogzilla is being made into a horror movie. But the sequel may be even bigger: Meet Monster Pig. An 11-year-old boy used a pistol to kill a wild hog his father says weighed a staggering 1,051 pounds and measured 9 feet 4, from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. Think hams as big as car tires.

More from Washington's Olympic Peninsula
May 23, 2007, 10:55 am
It's just a few hours drive from Seattle, but the Olympic Peninsula feels like a completely different world. The most northwestern corner of the United States has peaks of nearly 8000 feet right next to temperate rain forests that see 140 inches of rain every year. Eight kinds of plants and 15 kinds of animals are found exclusively on the peninsula. Outdoor adventures, such as hiking, camping, fishing and boating abound, as do the opportunity to experience the region's Native American cultures, quaint towns and unique sights.

Moose Hunting
May 18, 2007, 9:49 am
Moose hunters are an odd lot, they require the patience of a saint, legs of an experienced trekker and a keen sense of direction. This article seeks to demystify moose hunting from my experience hunting moose in Alaska. While Alaskan moose (acles alces gigas) are a bit different than those found in other regions , the ideas presented here should apply to those hunting other moose species (alces alces americana, alces alces shirasi, and acles acles andersoni) in places like Washington, Colorado, Utah, Montana, Maine, and some of the Canadian Provinces.
