New trend in camping is all the rage

Pitching tents and roasting marshmallows over the fire isn't everyone's definition of a vacation. So, instead of roughing it, imagine martinis, gourmet food and silk sheets.

A new phenomenon called "glamping," or glamorous camping, is all about bringing the luxuries of home to the outdoors and companies are now rolling out fancy sheets, grills, refrigerators and cappuccinos to meet the trend.

Bob Matheson, the manager of Mountain Equipment Co-op on King Street, told 680News it may sound a little silly to those hard-core outdoors people, but times are changing.

"The days of sweating and working really hard in the outdoors are well behind us. As we get more comfortable, everyone gets into camping," he said.

But, he said, that doesn't mean you go overboard. "It's one thing to make things comfortable; it's another thing to wear an evening gown when you're in the outdoors," Matheson said.

With all the comforts of home now available, even divas have been enjoying the great outdoors.

Many "glampers" have taken things one-step further by hiring chefs to tag along during the camping trip to prepare their meals. "(So), it's not the same old thing every night for a week," he said.

However, "glampers" are being criticized by outdoor enthusiasts. "I think it takes the fun right out of it - it's not camping, it's staying at home basically," one woman told 680News.

Are you kidding me? GLAMPING! Oh boy. I've noticed this same "jones'" trend as my childhood has melted from my marshmallow stick I've carved from a wooden stick, onto my stainless steel multi-roast marsh-melter with "sure grip." Exadurating? Well not really! In todays day and age everyone loves to consume and &qu
ot;one up" their neighbor, this is very true.

I'm hopeing with all of the recent pushes for environmental awareness, we decide to make better choices on what we bring camping and what we consider to be camping! I would say stay home and enjoy the comfort of your own home or go to a nice resort where you can sit on your royal behind and let someone do it ALL for you - after all isn't that what you really want?

Camping with a tent and snuggling up to someone you love is what really makes you memories! It's the adventure that will keep you fulfilled not the latte' you spend the better half of the morning preparing.

Think about it! icon_evil
